A fine calm day initially, even though later in the game a very welcome breeze got up to moderate the highest golf day temperature we have had for some time this Autumn.
The number of players today was only 67 (52 men and 15 ladies), numbers almost identical to those of the game in May. No new members today. Cedric Payne, our second oldest member, turned 79 last Saturday.
The Course showed signs of recovery of Fairway grass after watering, but it has a long way to go to show quality lushness about most of it. Work has started on the maintenance of the rough. The Greens were reasonably quick and seemingly mowed to give a smooth roll but there were many bumps on many of them.
The usual welcoming tea and coffee before the game was again provided and the current Club lunch menu offerings were available afterwards.
Ros Englund got the Ladies trophy on countback with her 35 points and the men’s leading scores, Allan McNeill’s 40 and Paul Hartell’s 41 points, took out the others. Relatively new member, Paul Hartwell, also took out the 14th Pin Shot with a distance so small that it proved too hard to beat.
Photos:
1. There’s still a bit of work here to make a nest at this spot.
2. Success with this putt would have given Helen the trophy today.
3. Allan played a great shot through the trees on the thirteenth to get back on the fairway.
4. They didn’t always go where they were wanted, but this one went quite a good distance.
5. Not a place to be on the 14th but Chene courageously played a careful shot onto the Green, only to just miss the putt.
