A very pleasant day for golf after the cool start tempered only by the breeze which was not welcome when it was against the direction of the shot being played. Parking is quite tight when so many visiting buggies are involved but with a bit of juggling all were accommodated with just a few on the roadway.
The final starting number was 130 (107 men and 23 ladies), which again showed the support we can expect when playing at a Course of this calibre. In that number were three new members and one returning member.. Some minor adjustments to the Timesheet near 8.30am meant that play was delayed for about 10 minutes, but there were no reports of any prolonged hold-ups during the day.
The Course was very well presented and those who applied good Course Management of the difficult areas scored the best. The type of bunker sand used here proved quite a challenge for many players and the number of strategically sited bunkers meant there many challenges to overcome. The Greens were very two-paced depending on the grain being negotiated and putts against the grain were not always reliable.
Gaye and Barry Geldard again provided the biscuits for the warming drink before play and players were more aware of the set up here than earlier in the year and, but for some computer reception glitches, registration proceeded smoothly. The lunch menu was warmly received after the game as well.
Local, Gaye Geldard’s 36 looked good for a win until June Nicholls posted her 37, and then that to be pushed to the background when Janet Hines posted 42, the best score of the Day. Graham Connell travelled from the Gold Coast to win Division 1 with 41, and in Division 2 Graham Hauser scraped home with 39 points. Pauline Rogers easily avoided the bunkers in front of the 17th Green to win the All In Approach.
Photos.
1. The roo would be wise not to copy this swing.
2. Jan wasn’t the only one to be concerned with their Tee shot on the 12th.
3. Ross was so lucky this screen stopped any further dismay.
4. Please John, just one chip and I’ll go away.
5. Both happy but only one got a ball (just) in the Rundown today.
6. Now have a guess. Who won with 41 points today?
The next game will be at Rosewood on Monday 6th August. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun Start.
