After the freezing May game, it was hoped that today would be sunny and reasonably warm, but it turned out overcast and cold. Early on the wind freshened to make conditions just bearable, but then it eased, and conditions became pleasant when some areas of blue sky appeared and all rejoiced. But shortly after, the clouds again gave total cover, and it was cool for the rest of the game. Even the Shirt and Shorts brigade must have felt a bit cool.
The field finished up at 61 (45 men and 16 ladies), with the ladies numbers holding steady but with a large drop in the number of men. There were no renewals but one new member.
The Course was not as lush as in May as we expected, but it was still well grassed, and the dry conditions gave plenty of run to the ball. The effort of the volunteer who mowed the Greens prior to play was much appreciated. Some of the Pin placements were challenging especially when the wind was stronger, particularly on the slope of the second Green.
Another game when the boiling Urn was just what was needed after coming in from outside on arrival, and the hot lunch went down well with those who ordered one.
Dorothy Pearson’s back nine was better than Mary Smith’s, so her 35 points took the ladies Trophy. Graham Hauser’s 40 points won Division 2 andd Brian Lake’s hopes of a win at last, were dashed when Doug Walsh’s card showed 41 points, one more than Brian’s.

1. New member, John Spithill, playing one of his first shots of the day.
2. I don’t suppose there’s much to smile about after hitting 4 trees with successive shots on an earlier hole.
3-5. The next three shots are all of winners on the day, Dorothy Pearson, Doug Walsh and Graham Hauser.
The next game is at Ipswich City on Monday 31st July. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is available at Rosewood Golf Club.
