Event 18 – Esk

We couldn’t have asked for a better winter’s day to play golf. No fog on the drive to Esk and a breeze on and off during the game to make sure that some thought went into shots into the wind.

The field of 60 (48 men and 12 ladies) was twelve more than the first game this year and included one visitor from the Gold Coast. All on the Timesheet turned up and play got underway right on time after a little juggling of groups.

The Course was in great shape and the preferred lie was hardly used. The Greens as always needed care, but if you kept away from the sides of them putting was a lot easier. The third Green was not in good shape but repairs are under way. With the flag missing on the first Green, a tomato stake sufficed until a replacement was substituted.

Crowding in the Clubhouse was again avoided by having the pre-game refreshments under the outside awning. Two Courses for lunch and for this time of year the hot meal was very appropriate as well as being tasty and filling. The delicious pudding in the sweet’s dishes topped off a great meal.

No score in the 40’s today and in Division 2 a three-way countback was required before Barry Geldard was declared the winner. Jim Ward and Sarah Erith were the other two winners. Sarah was surprised by the win but still was able to make a very short acceptance speech.

Photos.

1. Look who’s back from their overseas trip as Bob tries to remember how to grip the club.

2. Probably the tap-in that won the trophy for Barry.

3. Col, you’re a bit far from the flag to be taking a sighter.

4. I could have sworn that I was aiming for the centre of the fairway.

The next game is at Sandy Gallop on Monday 17th August. It will be the 1st Round of this year’s Championships. The Timesheet is now out. The 2nd Round will be at Rosewood on Monday 24th August. Both Rounds will be Single Stroke events. The Nomination sheet for the game at Woodford will be out at Sandy Gallop.
