Event 18 – Brisbane River

The prediction of a fine Winter’s day with a mid 20’s temperature proved correct, and with the prompt arrival of all players, they were dispatched just ahead of time.

There were 81 players (64 men and 17 ladies), up 4 on last year’s number, due to an additional 5 ladies who participated this year, and including two visitors. There was a bit extra work for a couple of groups at the end of play as they had used different cards from those put out for our game.

Considering the stress some other District Courses are suffering at this time of the year, Brisbane River was in quite good condition, but the Preferred Lie was still very welcome in many areas. For the second year in a row, our game followed an Honour Board event resulting in some challenging Pin placements on the slick sloping Greens which were in top condition. See photo 3.

The welcoming range and quality of the platters accompanying the Tea and Coffee were very much appreciated and the Lunch offerings by Club volunteers really went over very well.

It was another hard day at the office, and many believed the Slope Rating should have been a fair bit greater for both men and ladies. No surprise then that there were no 40 points games today. Murray Panzram and Ossie Baker (though on Countback) had wins with 38 points, and Lorraine Videroni only needed 33 points to win the Ladies trophy. It is not very often that the Men’s Rundown goes down to 30.

Photos.

1. Vic wanted proof that he read right down to Local Rule number 11.

2. Bill was pretty well down the middle with every drive that didn’t go left.

3. The story of the day, putt up the slope and just wait and hope.

4. Some mates would give you a hand in a situation like this. He just needed a Band-Aid not an ambulance.

5. They all look pretty happy with themselves, but it was Murray who took home the trophy, again.

The next game is at Rosewood on Monday 29th July. It will be a 9.00am Shotgun start as we are hosting visitors from Woodford. The following game is at Gailes on 5th August.
