Event 17 – Sandy Gallop

A fine day, initially bleak but which got warmer and very pleasant as the clouds parted and the sun came out. Registration was made easy as Paul had the cards prepared and no one played off the wrong handicap today.

A field was 82 (65 men and 17 ladies), the highest number of ladies for some time. With the microphone working, it was easy to clarify some local rules and to remind players the need to feed the completed cards through the scanner before handing them in. Nearly everyone did. The printout made determining the winners and the Ball Rundown a very quick job.

The Course was very well grassed and, in fact, was quite wet from watering in some areas. The Greens have responded well to the attention they have received and gave a true roll. The greenkeeper indicated he is still working on improving them still further.

A boiling urn and biscuits were well received, and Brett again oversaw the preparation of the hamburger lunches, and the newly tried warming of the bread rolls was appreciated. He will do the same at Karana Downs in a couple of weeks.

Bernadette Bugden’s 45 points was easily the score of the day to take the Ladies trophy. Three 40 pointers today for the men earned wins for Miguel Cufi and Allan Raper but only Runner-up for Captain Peter. There were three top shots today. Rod Turnbull on the 7th and John Mark on the 9th scored Eagles, and Graham Doyle on the 9th had a par. Why was his 4th shot so memorable? Because he chipped to the hole and his ball deflected off Don McKee’s ball in to the hole. Congratulations to the three of them for displaying such skill.

Photos.

1. A birds-eye view of the 11th Green, and an interesting downhill putt coming up for Mark.

2. Already two in the water from others in the group, but it posed no problem for Graham.

3. The stance of a ‘leftie’ playing a right-handed shot.

4. Without the hat, we still know who it is.

The next game is at Esk on Monday 25th July. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start.
