For the second time this year for a Gailes game, we did not know until 5.00pm on Sunday whether play would be possible on the Monday. Fortunately, the Course was declared able to take Cart travel and play proceeded. It turned out to be a fine day with clear skies and a mid 20’s temperature after quite a cool start.
The Field was the second best of the year with 92 (80 men and 12 ladies) hitting off right on time. We had one returning member and another two unable to play because of Covid.
The Course is still far below its best and the recent rain is delaying its recovery even more. The Bunkers were in play and newly raked, but they were rain affected and quite difficult to negotiate. The Greens, left with a higher cut than usual, have not really responded to the maintenance provided with many areas under repair. Three putts were not uncommon.
The welcoming Tea, Coffee and biscuits were really appreciated before play, and then the seasonal hot lunch was enjoyed by at least half the field.
Cedric Payne and Doug Walsh both had 39’s, clearly the best scores of the day, with Cedric winning the Countback. Brian Zeidler and Debbie Zahnow won the other two Divisions. The Captain had to hand out a lot more Rundown balls for the men today because there were ten on the cut-off score of 30 points.
Photos:
1. The approach to the 17th Green is very daunting for all but the very brave.
2. Rainbow need not have worried about this drive. It was up the middle.
3. John took his time over this one and avoided the trouble on the left.
4. This photo and comment was provided by one of his “supposed” mates in his group.
5. A happy group celebrating Brian’s good win today.
Our next game is at Laidley on Monday 1st August. It is n 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is at Rosewood.
