Event 16 – Sandy Gallop

It was a very bracing start to the day, but by hit-off time it was obvious that a fine clear day lay ahead ideally suited for a pleasant day’s golf. Play got under way on time even accomodating one player who made a late decision to have a game.

The field was 92 (77 men and 15 ladies) and Paul Harbers got back from his trip just in time to have the scorecards all printed and sorted after a busy Sunday afternoon at the club. Having the player’s Tee number on the card is a real bonus and alleviates a large amount of double checking before play.

As can be seen by the first photo, the Course looked a picture with total green grass coverage. No Preferred Lie was in place but many players reported that they played from quite a few Fairway lies where it would have been appreciated. They may have had a point since the Ball Rundown went to 31 in all three Divisions. The Greens were in top order and we had another experience of a Monday game following Club Championships.

The welcoming refreshments were in place as usual and Brett again turned out very tasty Burgers. Today he even had a supply of ‘jam drops’ which were offered to those interested in a ‘sweet’ treat.

Almost a triple sweep today when locals Shirly Luhrman and Ray McLeod won their Divisions, but Adrian Scott couldn’t make up the 5 point leeway that gave Division 2 to Glen Kelly who had the second-best score of the day. Bob Daw collected two Pin Shots and Shiela Goodbun beat the remainder of the field to win the hole 8 All In Pin Shot.

Photos.

1. Remember this hole! From here it’s decision time about whether or not to go for the Green.

2. Did I really need to stand behind the screen to take this shot, Allan?

3. Was Bob within the rules to play from this spot? Yes, but why?

4. A very nervous putt. He got it and that gave him successive birdies.

5. Wayne thought this would be his only trophy of the day until he just scraped in with a ball in the Rundown.

The next game is at Gailes on Monday 17th July. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. Gaye and Barry Geldard are sponsoring the day, for which we are extremely grateful. There are still some vacant spots on the Boonah 4Ball Timesheet. Ring the club if you are free and you and your partner would like a game.
