Event 15 – Sandy Gallop

A bit like last year’s game, it was a very bleak first few holes of play, but after the shedding of the necessary winter garments we all enjoyed a most pleasant day’s golf, weather wise anyhow. Play got under way on time even though some juggling of the Timesheet was necessary after the pull-out of ten players and the registration of five new players.

The field was 106 (85 men and 21 ladies), 14 more than at the equivalent game last year. In the absence of Paul Harbers, Paul Brennan kindly stepped in and got the cards ready for the day only to strike trouble with the printer and the cards had then to be entered manually. No harm done but extra work for Paul for which we are thankful. Every week now more members are getting their necessary three games played to allow them to qualify for the Championship events in August.

The Urn was well and truly boiling on the arrival of the earlier players and Col Hallam ensured that the biscuits got to the Clubhouse earlier than usual. The same successful Burger Recipe was used as at the last game and members readily disposed of them.

The three forty-point scorers all received trophies today. Barbara Scott and Peter Moran were winners, and Ian McColm was runner-up on countback. John Mark’s 39 edged out Les Smith in Division 1. Following a close check of the Marker sheet on the 12th hole, Bryan Kathage’s closest to the Pin second shot on the day, 65cm, took the balls.

Photos.

1. Ron Pflugrath cutting his 90th birthday cake. See ‘Notices’ for full tribute.

2. Interpret as you will, but it must have had some importance for Bob to remove his hat.

3. The typical Maurie Clem stance. It didn’t bring any success today, but it will bring him success in the near future.

4. The first photo of a couple of our newer members.

5. I bet John won’t be wearing that shirt after his great win today.

The next game is at Lowood on Monday 2nd July. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet for the Boonah Invitation 4Ball on Monday 13th August will be available at the 30th July game at Gailes and then at the August 6th game at Rosewood.
