A fine sunny day made the golf most enjoyable, especially since the cold wind at last week’s game was missing. Play got under way on time as all players arrived early, which was a good thing considering the big field. Cedric Payne was glad he left early as we won’t be at his initial venue, Sandy Gallop, until next week.
The roll-up was 88 (71 men and 17 ladies) and the usual waits were experienced which took playing time for most to around the 5-hour mark, a time players have come to expect with a field this size.
The Course was in good condition with a good grass coverage. No preferred lie was used as relief was allowed from new work and bare patches on Fairways, though there were areas uneven lies made for difficult shots. The Greens were excellent, and Pin placements indicated the playing of Club Championships.
Hot drinks and bun loaf were most appreciated on arrival and the hot lunch of sausages and vegies went down well.
John Maxwell’s 44 was the best score of the day and won him Division 2, while playing partners Ken Marschke and Ernie Lee kept a close check on each other’s scores which ended up finishing locked together on 41 points, with Ken winning on countback. Angie played well again at Lowood to take the Ladies trophy. Les Smith won two Pin Shots with the one on hole 5 finishing close at 59cm.
Photos.
1. Only heavy dew today to make the Greens a little slow early on.
2. After putting his drive in the water, he then hit this one onto the Green and putted it for a four.
3. Good to have you back with us Val.
4. He said the camera put him off to such an extent that he sank the putt.
5. Total contentment with 44 points and a hearty meal.
The next game is at Sandy Gallop on Monday 3rd July. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is available at Rosewood Golf Club.
