Event 14 – Wolston Park

It was great to get the game under way under grey skies and the expectation of a shower or two. In fact, we did get two early on which dampened a few spirits, and although there was very little sun, and the threat of more showers, the remainder of the Round was fine.

The field contained 85 players (73 men and 12 ladies) and for the second time in a row an early start was possible with timely book-ins. With quite a few playing here for the first time, explanations of Tee locations were very numerous, if not always totally accurate.

Generally, the Course was in top shape with a few bare patches spread around the 18 holes. Most Greens were very good with only a couple still needing work to repair earlier damage. One groundstaff member showed great patience in sticking to his task of digging small winter grass plants out of the Greens.

Dorothy was on the job again to have the Urn boiling and the use of the order sheet for meals was trialed and worked well with feedback to help cater at the game later in the year.

The two men’s comps were won with 39’s with both runners-up having 38’s. Local player, Fay Steel, prevailed in the Ladies comp with a 36. There were two fine Pin Shot wins today with John Hafner’s 32cm and Peter Roche’s 37cm. Mark Butler had and equally good shot on the 10th hole, but unlucky for him, there was no Pin Shot there.

Photos.

1. The Course was in pretty good shape.

2. The shot you have to play if you go right of the 11th Fairway.

3. Nearly out of Bounds and now this shot to save the hole.

4. Just one sample of the lunch on offer today.

5. Just quietly thinking about those missed shots today.

The next game will be at Laidley on Monday 27th June. The Timesheet is at Rosewood. The following game is at Beaudesert. The Nomination Sheet for that game is also out now.
