The totally cloudless sky for most of the day made conditions ideal, and after the game some players ventured to say how much they really enjoyed the day.
The field was 50 (36 Men and 14 Ladies), a number which probably indicated an expectation that the Course had not recovered from the effects of the drought. The new Hole numbers caused no problems this visit, and Handicap detail queries were readily resolved as well.
What a remarkable turnaround since our February visit, and what a difference adequate water makes to the state of a Course. Congratulations Laidley. The extensive grass coverage of the Fairways made such a difference to the game. The Greens were still at their high standard and also very playable.
The Tea and Coffee facility was available and readily used together with the sealed biscuits. Members appreciated the efforts of the Club to have three Lunch menu options which all proved most enjoyable.
Lyn and Ossie Baker scored a first by both winning their Divisions on the same day, and new member, Brett Sweeting, won Division 1 in a 4-way countback. Even with the small numbers, three Pin Shots were used with a couple of excellent results near the Pin on the second/ fourteenth hole.
Photos.
1. Visual proof that the Course and gardens have benefitted from the recent rain.
2. Only three of the players who spent time trying to retrieve balls from this well-known trap for the unwary.
3. Plenty of determination in this shot which almost paid dividends at game’s end.
4. A pleasant post-game chat from two of our most experienced golf wise members after the game.
The next game is at Oxley on Monday 28th June. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start.
