Event 14 – Ipswich City

The light early fog had cleared by hit-off time and a perfectly fine and sunny winter’s day followed with the temperature reaching 25 degrees and no breeze to speak of until later in the Round. With all players booking in by 8.15am, the field was able to be dispatched early.

The field was 90(76 men and 14 ladies), 35 fewer than the same game last year at the end of May. It seems to be a busy time for travellers and others having a trip away this year. Barry and Gaye Geldard were welcomed back after an extended break and hope to get in the Ball Rundown list next game. Bob again had the cards printed and new software greatly reduced the time he spent doing so.

Preferred Lie was necessary because the Course has a lot less grass cover than at the earlier game this year, and hopefully it will improve before our Championship games. The Greens were in perfect condition again, and thankfully slightly slower than those at our last two games.

The urn was handily placed and boiling for the early arrivals and the new lunch menu was well received. The Table service allowed players to sit and socialise until their meals were prepared.

The three players with scores in the 40’s were today’s winners. Shirley Luhrman’s 44 was the best of the day but the 42’s of Doug Dann and Rob Walker were almost as good. The Ladies also took the honours for the Pin Shot on hole 5 with the 101cm of Rhonda Williams.

1. Whatever the weather conditions, the ground staff get the Course ready for our game.

2. Rob’s having a great Round, so he’s anxious to have his putt.

3. Wayne played a great shot into the 1st Green from an unfavourable lie on the 9th fairway.

4. What’s Gerry thinking after this chip from the back of the 13th to a steeply sloping Green?

5. That’s my number so don’t talk too long Lyn.

The next game is at Lowood on Monday 24th March.
