The low four-degree temperature in the morning was no problem as it finally reached a very comfortable 23 degrees later on, with a fine comfortable playing day as well. All arrived early and there was no delay to the hit-off time. The field moved well with the earlier finishers being back in the Clubhouse in under 4 hours.
The field was 85 players (67 men and 18 ladies), 6 fewer than last year and included three new lady players. Four players had an extended trip when they took the turn off to the Gatton by-pass where roadworks signs were not very clear, or so they say. They still arrived in plenty of time.
Fairways were in very good condition and no preferred Lie was used. The Greens were also a pleasure to putt on even though they had not been mown prior to the game.
The Tea, Coffee and biscuits available on arrival were very welcome in the warm Clubhouse after a very cool start to the day, and after the game the three-choice menu was very well received.
Bob Ellison’s 37 was the closest anyone got to 40 points today, giving him a one-point win. New member, Laurel Didsman, used her local knowledge to win the Ladies event by two shots with her 35. Ossie Baker had to survive a countback from playing partner Ron Pflugrath and spoilt a dream result at Ron’s last Vets game on 89 years of age. He turns 90 next week, and hopefully will post another good Round at Sandy Gallop. Jim Breewood had to get a Club Buggy when his wouldn’t start and then that one didn’t complete the Round either. The shot of the day came on the 16th hole when Barbara Scott holed her Tee Shot. Congratulations Barb.
Photos.
1. It looks so easy, but the Pin placement cost some an extra shot once they got on the Green.
2. Is it true that magpies keep away from orange objects?
3. John was making sure that Camera flash didn’t affect his second shot on the 18th.
4. Why take a photo of these two balls? Because Bill Naoum chipped the one on the left before the other one could be marked and his cannoned into the hole for a birdie.
5. A happy group of newly joined new members, with Laurel on the left a winner at her first Vets game.
6. I’ve wanted a photo of this group for quite some time, and they posed beautifully.
7 Rhonda was very happy to present the trophy to Barbara because Barb had her first Hole in One on the 16th today.
The next game will be at Sandy Gallop on Monday 25th June. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start.
