Event 14 City (Toowoomba)

The outside temperature was 8 degrees or less on the trip to the Course, but all were warmed in the Clubhouse on arrival, making it a bit of a shock when moving to the Tee to hit off. It reached 18 degrees by day’s end and the sneaky south westerly saw most not shedding their warm clothes until mid-morning.

The numbers today ended up with 54 players (47 men and 7 ladies), a surprisingly low number for a day which is normally eagerly waited for by many of our group, after initially there were 67 on the timesheet. There were 5 new members, (4 from Toogoolawah), and one renewing member.

The Course was in terrific shape and the good grass cover took the run out of shots that back home would have rolled a lot further. The Greens were as slick as usual with the pin placements ensuring that there were quite a few 3-putt scores.

Tea and Coffee were provided on the new half-way refreshment bench and those who lunched were well satisfied with their orders.

The results were a first for the group with three recently joined members winning trophies. Kerri Tomlinson and Geoff Hulett were Division winners and Paul Hartwell got a runner-up trophy when he was denied the win by Bruce Thorogood who also got a Pin shot.

1. Later in the morning the sprinklers began to appear as players finished a hole.

2. Di used the clothes on the line behind to plan her shot but was still anxious about its flight.

3. The wind blowing the leaf behind her didn’t lessen Marysha’s concentration with this putt.

4. Wayne Biles said that Paul is always trying to better any great shot he makes, and he did again here.

5. Recently joined player, Jeff Reeves, enjoyed his day with this group, both during and after the game.

The next game is at Sandy Gallop on Monday 26th June and the Timesheet is now available at Rosewood.
