On the drive up to Woodford it wasn’t apparent until about 3kms from the Course that it was going to be a very windy day. The prediction was that it would be partly cloudy, but in fact it was cloudy for almost the entire day and the wind chill factor made the playing conditions very uncomfortable.
Only 38 players (34 men and 4 ladies) made the trip. Since the cancellation of the bus travel numbers have steadily fallen and it will be a sorry time if the visit has to be discontinued as the Course is always well prepared for us. Once again, our visit coincided with a Pumicestone District Day and there were 96 in the field.
Though the Course was very green in spite of the dry weather and the Greens were very true, the gale force winds experienced on the Sunday had trees, tree limbs and leaves scattered all over the Course, and the Ground Staff were busy all day trying to make inroads into cleaning away the debris.
Tea, Coffee and Biscuits were available on arrival and certainly gave the most warmth everyone would experience until we all returned to the Clubhouse after the game. A selection of Burger combinations was available for lunch, but the Shotgun start caught the stand-in catering lady by surprise and there was a lengthy wait to be served.
Graham Wilson overcame the unfavourable conditions and played top golf to have 41 points, the second-best score of the day and by far the best of the IDVGA players. Our oldest player, Ron Pflugrath, had a very creditable 37 points. And we took out 2 of the 8 Pin Shots when Ross Grant and Eric Edgeworth prevailed on the 3rd and 7th holes. Because of the nature of the competition and the accumulated ball “pool”, all players scored a ball in the Rundown. That gave us something to talk about other that the weather.
Photos. Sorry none today. It was too windy to hold the camera still.
The next Home game is at Wolston Park on Monday 13th June. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start.
