Event 13 – Gatton

The forecast of Fog similar to that experienced yesterday, proved to be way off the mark. It was a clear day, a little cool early in the Round, but the conditions were perfect for golf. Despite the inconvenience of road works, all arrived on time.

The competition today was sponsored by local members, Jackie Collins and Lisa Taylor, and the field contained 72 players (57 men and 15 ladies). It was so good to see the number of ladies returning after Pennants, replacing some who were unable to play. Two new members played, and five others returned.

There was conjecture prior to hit-off as to how the Course would play. The scores give an accurate assessment because it varied from hole to hole. Early on the Greens were covered in dew and they were slow and then they became lightning fast by day’s end. The Fairways were in good condition, but care was needed because they were dry on the top holes with wet areas on the bottom holes.

The aroma of fresh scones was the greeting received on entry to the Clubhouse, and they tasted great as well. The two choices of lunch was appreciated as lunches are not normally served at Gatton on a Monday.

As one of the Sponsors, Jackie Collins chose not to accept the Ladies trophy, a gesture which allowed Denise Johnson to win on countback from Shirley Morgan. Bob Heathwood not only introduced a new member, he put on a fine display of golf to win with 41 points. The Club was generous enough to donate a Bradman’s Trophy which Barry Geldard enjoyed drinking. We hope this doesn’t mean that there will a lot more not trying at next year’s game.

3. Good shot. This one landed and stayed on the Green.

4. A winner with 41 points, and no one is going to stop him making a speech.

The next game will be at Lowood on Monday 30th June. The following game will be at Beaudesert on Monday 7th July, and the Ipswich game listed for 7th July, will now be played on Monday 21st July. Both the Lowood and Beaudesert Timesheets are now at Rosewood
