A very foggy trip to the Course but by hit off time clear skies prevailed. While the sun was out the weather was very pleasant but for half an hour when heavy clouds approached but didn’t offload, it was quite chilly.
The field was 71 (58 men and 13 ladies), fewer than expected but this number allowed play to move fairly steadily leading to a four-and-a-half-hour game. The field was able to be dispatched 10 minutes early.
The Course was presented in very good condition, but Preferred Lie was implemented as there were areas still recovering from the dry period. The Greens were excellent and not quite as quick as when mown shorter but were very tricky with the placement of some holes.
The Tea and Coffee was very welcome, and the biscuits quickly disappeared when they finally arrived. The lunch options catered well for all needs.
Graeme Sharpe easily had the best score of the day, 39, while Jim Collins needed a countback for his 36 to win also. Shirley Luhrman returned to the winner’s circle with a 32 and Marysha Boonstoppel’s shot to 58cm into the wind on the 4th was probably the shot of the day. Bob Carter rued his decision to leave a Pin Shot off the 8th when he finished 24cm from the Pin, just as creditable a shot as Marysha’s.
Photos.
1. The last of the fog as players played their first hole.
2. There was a real slope at the front of the 8th which gave a few an extra putt.
3. Not as much slope here, but still a tricky flag position.
4. Another putting photo as it was hard to get any others today. Graham got this one.
The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun Start at Ipswich City on Monday 10th June.
