Ideal Autumn weather was very welcome as we will have to contend with Winter temperatures from our next game. All arrived on time which allowed players going to distant Tees to hit off on time.
The field was 125(104 men and 21 ladies), just one more man than at the first Ipswich game this year. Because Captain Bob again had all the cards printed, the only query came from the ladies who were concerned that their handicaps were too high, a worry quickly dismissed when they found they needed it all out on the Course. There were two returning members, and our membership now stands at 202.
The Course was very well presented, and the only preferred lies were on bare patches on Fairways, though it would have been welcomed in some other areas where the ground was very hard. A request by the local Ladies to retain the Championship Pin placements for their Tuesday game, saw some very difficult Pin placements even though the Greens themselves could not be faulted if you liked them very fast.
With the big numbers today, the boiling urn was quickly emptied, and the Gaming Room urn was brought in to use until it was re-boiled. Thankfully there were enough biscuits. It was a long day, and many did not stay for lunch, but the Menu range suited those who did.
Di Stanley had the equal top score today to be the Ladies winner. Graeme Gordon and Bob Mathers also had that score, but Graeme got the nod on countback. Bob Daw won the playing partner contest with Chris Petrohilos, but again only on countback. We had 9 representatives at the State Championships at Bargara. No trophies won this year, but all were extremely happy with the Course.
Photos.
1. All ready to go, and no breakdowns today.
2. The playful culprits who are making life very difficult fot the Groundstaff.
3. A sneak photo which had to be this wide to make sure the red Tee marker was visible.
4. Not a good position or lie, but the ball still finished on the Green.
5. The girls were happy to tell Ross about how they got balls in the Rundown today.
The next game is at Boonah on Monday 4th June, and it is an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Club Buggies are all booked with a waiting list and there are only 4 spaces left on the Timesheet as this report is written. Players who would still like a game should ring Bob to see if there are any pull-outs.
