Event 11 – Lowood

The second last day of Autumn gave a clear indication of the upcoming season. It was a cool start which warmed throughout the day with a breeze which kept the temperature in the low 20’s. Thankfully the clouds were high and the possible showers were confined to almost insignificant drops falling on and off during the day.

The field finished up at 72 (60 men and 12 ladies), a very pleasing result at this substitute game. Of these, three were members renewing membership. Even with this big field, and the expected lack of run on the Course, play moved reasonably well for most of the time, and all Groups finished after about four and a half hours of actual play.

While the restoration of the Course to pre-deluge days will now depend on the weather, players were well aware of areas to avoid to help full restoration. All in all, both Fairways and Greens were in a condition which allowed all players to get in a very pleasant day’s golf.

The Tea/Coffee and biscuits were warmly appreciated on arrival, and the two lunch offerings even more so after the game.

Because of the Men’s Lowood Course rating, all had lower handicaps and they knew it would be a hard day if they couldn’t manage the low run on the Course. The winners today who did that best were Ros Englund, Neale Porter and Glenn Kermond with Neale only one shot from reaching the 40 point mark. The play of the day came from Doug Dann whose shot to the Green of the Par 3 fifth finished in the hole. Congratulations Doug.
