Event 11 – Laidley

Hardly a cloud in the sky today and 27 degrees predicted, so once again perfect Golf weather except that the expected cooling Laidley breeze was almost non-existent and by day’s end most players were commenting that it was quite warm. The field was 61 (48 Men and 13 Ladies), after a number of late withdrawals. Playing the Course set out on the yellow card to enable scores to be used for handicapping, and with a shotgun start, the field flowed very well until the last few holes of the Round on holes 13 to 18. Former member, John Radke, returned for a game with the assistance of Owen Schmidt.

The Hamburger Lunch was prepared for players completing the Round rather than during the latter part of their game. This worked well for the Club but made the refreshment later for many members who enjoyed eating ‘on the run’ as they passed the Clubhouse.

The Course was in very good condition and the Greens gave a true roll, albeit one that was often misread by visitors, after they dried out. A good number stayed for Presentations which finished just after 2.00pm.

The scores were nothing to write home about, but the three winners did just enough to win by one shot. Lisa Taylor recorded her second win in a row and may make it three at her home Course, Gatton, at our next home game. Mark Butler and Maureen McKinlay must have thought their 10cm Pin Shot measurements on the 4th hole would win the balls, but Ken Marschke stole it with a Birdie later in the day.

Photos.

1. Dew on the grass is very picturesque, but early in the Round it made the Greens a lot slower.

2. Last minute Clubhouse advice before the game.

3. The corellas were in their hundreds and on the wing, they screeched when players approached.

4. Even the awareness of the camera wasn’t going to faze Col with what he hoped was his last putt of the day.

The next game is at Woodford on Monday 2nd June. It is a 9.00am Shotgun start. The following game is at Gatton on Monday 23rd June.
