Event 11 – Laidley

Some patches of fog made the drive up quite interesting, and visibility was often down to 100 metres, but as expected after the fog lifted, the weather was perfect. With everyone arriving on time play got under way right on 8.30am.

The field was 71 (59 Men and 12 Ladies), just the number that allows play to flow steadily and the game took about four and a quarter hours, the best time this year so far, helped in no small way by the fact that all groups were able to keep up with play.

What a difference in the Course from the February game with a plentiful grass cover presenting it in the best condition we have experienced for a couple of years. The set up of the Course was influenced by the conduct of the Club’s Championships, but there were no totally unfair Pin placements. Not all the Greens had been mown, and the differene in speed between the mown and unmown ones was very noticeable. That said, they were equal to the best played on this year and the Groundstaff were congratulated on the work they are doing here.

Refreshments were ready on our arrival and the fish, chips and salad lunch was most enjoyable.

Shirley Luhrman made it two wins in a row with a very solid 40 points and Larry Hayne and Ossie Baker won th Mens trophies with 42 and 44 points. Handicapper, John Hunter, reported that quite a few players played on handicaps lower than their correct daily handicaps, and the look up sheets used are going to be checked for any anomalies. Luckily this did not affect the Trophy winners. Barry Geldard played a great second second shot to the seventh Green to win the All In Pin Shot.

Photos.

1. The fog has almost lifted to reveal a great day for golf.

2. Golf can be a lonely game when you put your ball where others fear to tread.

3. Great style and great shot, Jim.

4. This shot taken from behind a bush to catch this group being frivolous instead of concentrating on their game.

5. Larry is very contented here, and so he should be since his 42 points was the best in Division 1.

The next game is at Warwick on Monday 29th May. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Club has found buggies for all those needing one and the temperature is predicted to only reach 21degrees, so it should be ideal for golf. The following game is at Boonah on Monday 5th June. Both Timesheets are now available.
