Very pleasant playing conditions weather-wise, which after a rather cool start, provided clear skies and only a slight wind. All players arrived in good time and the field was promptly dispatched.
The number of players today was only 65 (51 men and 14 ladies), 5 more than the April game due mainly to the turn-up of 4 additional ladies. Also there was one returning player.
The Fairways were disappointing for this time of the year when other Courses are benefitting from timely watering as they now start to dry, leaving a sparse grass covering on very hard ground. Alternatively, the Greens were in very good condition and most were very quick. The placement of the Pins illustrated the problems the locals had in their Championship Round on Saturday.
The pre-game Tea, Coffee and biscuits were eagerly sought to get the day off well and the standard lunch menu met player needs post-match.
Ken Rogers and Barry Murphy outshone the rest of the field with their 37 points to win the men’s Divisions. Angie Arumugam won the Ladies event with 33 on count back. The rest struggled with their game and the Ball Rundowns went to 29 and 25, the lowest seen for some time. Peter Roche celebrated his last Vets game while still in his eighties, as a Runnerr-up on countback. Next week at Oxley if he can drop five shots he will shoot his age.
