The westerly breeze kept things cool early but once play got under way playing conditions could not be bettered with the temperatures for the day between 10 and 23 degrees.
The field was 83 players (69 men and 14 ladies), 12 fewer than our last game here in April 2019. We had three returning players and one new member who revelled in the opportunity by winning his Division.
The club is to be congratulated on the improvements to the three Fairways repaired so far, but the new Men’s Tee on the 12th was a bit of a shock once it was found. The Greens have responded well to the recent watering and were among the fastest we have played this year, with the Pin placements a challenge to all, even those who have played here before.
The Tea/Coffee on arrival was missed, but hopefully this will change by our next game. It was great to experience the menus of the new caterers with a good choice on offer.
New Member Doug Walsh’s 38 was the best score of the day. Roger Cromarty brought up his second win of the year and Shiela Goodbun was the best of the Ladies. The surprise of the day was supplied by two ladies. Sarah Erith and Helen Gilbert both birdied the Par 3 16th hole, which just happened to be an All In Approach hole. None of the men could match them.
Photos.
1. No! This wasn’t the drain to the left of the 17th Fairway. It was a photo taken by Lyle Robson of one of the hazards faced by the Esk group at the State Championships in Townsville last week.
2. In case you can’t pick her, this is Di Stanley trying to get out of trouble.
3. An easier shot for today’s winner, Shiela Goodbun.
4. Even the lefties didn’t have things all their own way, but Rainbow played a top shot to just off the Green.
5. You guessed it, this shot didn’t exactly go where John intended it to.
The next game will be at Lowood on Monday 31st May. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The following game is at Woodford on Monday 7th June. The Woodford Nomination sheet is now available along with the Lowood Timesheet.
