Event 10 Lowood

What a change from our February game when we had a fine still day and the temperature reached 28 degrees. Today it was around 3 degrees when we arrived and didn’t get close to 20 degrees until late in the day. That in itself would have been tolerable but throw in the gusting south/south westerly winds, and we had the conditions to make everyone extremely miserable.

The field finished up at 72 (56 men and 16 ladies). There were no renewals but one new member. As usual, play flowed well except at the 2nd and 5th holes, and those waiting made sure they stood out of the shade or faced the Buggy to block the wind somewhat.

The Course was also again in excellent condition and the Greens were in the top condition the Club has them for their Championships.

The boiling Urn was the second port of call after registration and arrangements were made for lunches for us after the departure of the previous caterers.

No 40-point scores were expected in the conditions and so it proved. Presentations were delayed because Bob and John had a time of it checking scores after a number of players used the match index on the card for determining their points. But in the end, the four leading men all had 37 points, and after extensive countbacks declared Allan McNeill and Jerry Buckley the winners. Janet Hines played well to score 35 points in the women’s Division and she hopes she does at least that well in Maryborough next week. Best of luck to all players who are making the trip.

Photos. 1. The camera was taken out, but the fingers were too cold to hold it still and push the button at the right time.

The next game is at Ipswich City on Monday 22nd May. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is available at Rosewood Golf Club.
