Event 10 – Gatton

The April time slot this year meant we started 10 degrees warmer than at hit-off last year, and the weather kept at a comfortable mid 20 degrees all day. Players moved out ahead of time with only one delay which was easily covered.

The field was 95 players (81 men and 14 ladies), 10 more than last year, which looked like being more than 100 until the late withdrawals were received. We had one returning player and one new member.

Like others in the District, the Course is starting to respond to the recent rain, and with the Preferred Lie, play from the Fairways and the Rough was enhanced. The Greens were in very good condition and were very fair where the speed of the putt was correctly read.

The Tea, Coffee and biscuits were most welcome even though one packet of biscuits was left unopened. Good reports were received about the two lunch meals which were offered.

Bob Ellison won last year and returned 44 points, the best by far, to ensure that he did it again. The Hatton Vale strength came to the fore with Ernie Lee and Bibi Stevens winning the other two Divisions. Bill Naoum and Frank Akes played top Golf to win the Approach shots on the tricky 18th Green.

Photos.

1. The Course is recovering well, but with shots like this, there’s no time to smell the flowers.

2. Denis said he was nervous on this birdie putt on the 15th Green because of the camera. Thankfully he got it.

3. Jim is apprehensive about his shot and Bibi is hoping for a good one as she’s having a top Round.

4. Doug doesn’t make too many mistakes, even so, he watched the flight of this one very carefully.

5. The old firm back in the groove and they were missed for the right reasons, thanks to a top relief effort by Rod. Note: Aren’t the photos enhanced by the lush green backgrounds after rain!

The next game will be at Laidley on Monday 13th May. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The following game is at Toowoomba City on Monday 27th May. The City timesheet will be out at Laidley.
