Clear skies, with an above average temperature predicted, ushered in this year’s programme. The field kept moving pretty well despite the weather and most returned between four and a half and four and three quarter hours later. The areas of shade, though, did have plenty of traffic, both by choice and necessity.
Though the first game was moved forward because of the Australia Day Holiday, 125 players (103 men and 22 ladies) weathered the Registration queue to get the 2019 programme underway. Of these, 7 of the men and 1 lady, were new members. In addition, five of last year’s members who have yet to play also joined up. Registration on Opening Day can be quite hectic but with players arriving before 10 past 8, play got away with a few minutes to spare.
Volunteers had the Course as good as could be expected at this time of the year, and with Preferred Lie, there was little disadvantage to players. The Greens had responded very well to recent maintenance and were the best they have been in the last 12 months..
Mary Gibson excelled with her plates of food today and even with the big numbers they were kept filled to satisfy all tastes. Thanks Mary. The lunch offerings of Rissoles and Chicken Schnitzel were top class and they became the meal for the day for many..
Ten scores in the 40’s were recorded, so the break worked wonders it seems. Pauline Rogers was the only lady to score one and Don McKee recorded 46 points after a shaky start. What was in that refreshment he partook of? Two 43’s in Division 1 but Graham Connell had the Countback advantage over Greg Maxwell. John Hunter was lucky his ball just made it to the Green on the 11th hole as it was the only one that did in Division 2.
Photos.
1.’ Steady as she goes’ and it helped towards those 40 points.
2. A good try today, Vic but 38 points was a fair way back in the scores received.
3. Patience pays off and they didn’t have to wait long anyway.
4.With Shirl’s two Pin Shots today why wouldn’t they be happy.
5. Terry and Bebe were just pleased to relax after a tough day.
The next game will be held at Sandy Gallop on Monday 4th February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is at Rosewood Golf Club.
The Annual Report for the 2018 year was presented at the AGM following Presentations. Last year’s Office Bearers were re-elected unopposed. The Report indicated a record 227 membership with 55 new players joining during the year. Eleven games had numbers over 100 with Gailes providing two of them with 152 (including 15 Woodford visitors) and 130 respectively. None of the 29 games were cancelled because of rain and the same Courses will be played again in 2019. Games all proceeded smoothly because of the cooperation of members and the efficiency of the Committee and a few other helpers. The Secretary/Treasurer reported a healthy Balance Sheet on a par with that of the previous year, with an expectation of a similar result in 2019.
At the AGM, Vice President and long-time handicapper, John Hunter, was awarded a Life Membership of the Association, in appreciation of his dedication to the task of ensuring Game Results were promptly processed to allow players to have their handicaps adjusted before their next game. This was time consuming and often complicated by having to deal with errors of compilation of scores and wrong or missing details on scorecards, as well as on occasions having to sort out handicap issues that players experienced when changing Clubs. Congratulations and well-deserved John.
