Event 1 – Rosewood – Opening Day

The threatening dark clouds were kind and went around the Course.  However, there was enough cloud cover during the day to make the conditions very good for this time of the year.

The year has started with the same roll-up as last year, 107 players consisting of 87 men and 20 ladies this year.  Eighteen of these were new or returning players and another thirteen paid their Nomination but did not start. Play got under way on time with a blast of the warning horn.

The rain has produced good grass cover and, as with all clubs now, the mowers are finding it hard to keep it under control. The Greens were benefitting also, and the speed of the ball told how carefully they are being managed.

Local lad John Hunter had 37 points, the best of the day, but 36 on double countback was good enough for John Osborne, another local, to win the other Men’s Division. The score of 33 on countback was all Pauline Rogers needed to notch her first Vets win of the year. There were no Pin shots put out.

Photos:

1. Opening Day went well with appropriate Social Distancing.

2. Ron and Joe managed the distribution of Membership Cards and the checking of Handicaps away from the Registration area and overcame any possible congestion.

3. A pleasant sight, but the rain clouds were mostly still around the horizon.

4. Bruce paid for missing the Fairway but recovered well.

5. It was great to see the grass cover on the Course, but the ball was still watched closely when Garry and Jerry teed off.

The next game will be held at Sandy Gallop on Monday 1st February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is at Rosewood Golf Club. The usual lunch menu will be available.

The Annual Report for the 2020 year was presented at the AGM prior to Presentations. There were no new nominees for Committee positions in 2021 and last year’s Office Bearers were re-elected unopposed. The Report indicated a membership of 169 with 13 new players during the five game playing year, which was curtailed after the game at City in Toowoomba, because of Covid 19 restrictions. The game at Wolston Park had already been cancelled because of inclement weather. The Secretary/Treasurer reported a healthy Balance Sheet on a par with that of the previous year, although a small loss was recorded due to the curtailing of the programme.
