The ten spots of rain which fell from the dark clouds at around 7.45am were the last sign of rain for the day, again proving the Weather forecast to be accurate. In fact, the temperature reached the 30degrees forecast and by day’s end players were seeking to walk or drive in the shade of trees.
It was a good start to the year’s programme to have 113 players (89 men and 24 ladies) turn out on Opening Day, nine of them new members (7 men and 2 ladies). In addition, four of last year’s members who have yet to play re-registered also. As was expected, there were a few hassels to overcome with our first game under the slope system, but as players get to realise that it is a must to know their exact handicaps, things will run smoothly again.
The club has put a lot of effort into the preparation of the Greens and they were the best we’ve experienced here for some time. It’s difficult to control the growth in the rough at this time of the year and more time than usual was spent looking for balls which ended up off the Fairway.
Mary’s Pikelets reminded us again that we are very welcome at Rosewood and the caterers gave us a treat too with sweets included with lunch.
For the second year in a row a new member won the Division 1 trophy when Arthur Reidel scored 36 points. The best score of the day was Allan Russell’s 40 points for a Division 2 win. Leona Sheraton completed the double for the ladies after winning Opening Day last year and again this year.

The next game will be held at Sandy Gallop on Monday 10th February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The following game on Monday 24th February is at Middle Ridge. The Timesheet is now available at Rosewood All travel is by private vehicle.
Finally, the AGM followed Presentations, and all nominated members were returned for 2014. The Financial Report indicated that the Association is in a very sound position and the Programme for this year should now be able to proceed as planned.
