A fine day with ideal conditions for a game of golf. During the Round a very welcome light wind gusted. This was great for player comfort, but it meant many judgements had to be made on its possible effect on ball flight. Despite this, the field moved very well, and the first players completed their game in just over 4 hours.
The year’s programme got off to a good start with 114 players (96 men and 18 ladies) turning out on Opening Day, ten of them new members (8 men and 2 ladies). In addition, four of last year’s members who have yet to play re-registered also. Registration was a little hectic as Fixture Cards and QVGU Identity Cards had to be issued also but play still got under way on time.
Since Closing Day last year, the Course showed a remarkable transformation from dry and dusty to green and lush, in most parts. The new mower was kept busy for the entire duration of our competition in an attempt keep the grass growth under control. The work on the Greens has been successful, with an accurate ball roll on those Greens not still affected by recent maintenance.
It was great to be welcomed into 2015 with Mary’s home cooking and the caterers again provided a most enjoyable meal, including optional sweets, after play.
Two players scored in the 40’s, but both were in the one Division, so Peter Frazer’s 41 points left Col Hallam on 40 as Runner up. Les Smith’s 38 points fell one short in his effort to win his last game as Captain since Richard Parnell had 41 points. One additional point also got Ann Hughes her win over Pam Lane. Sheila Goodbun’s 34cm on the 15th hole was a great Tee shot but feel for Denise Johnson whose ball struck the Pin on the 2nd and dropped to within 17cm of the hole to deny her a hole in one.

1. This practice was worthwhile as Richard went out and won Division 1.
2. Not the planned outcome for Les with his first Tee shot of the day on the 9th hole.
3. So lucky Keith that there was preferred lie today.
4.This was a shot to show how green the Course was, but these guys wouldn’t move.
5. Twenty-six years on and these two remaining Foundation members with continuous membership are still going strong. Keep it up John and Ron.
The next game will be held at Sandy Gallop on Monday 9th February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The following game on Monday 23rd February is at Middle Ridge. Both Timesheets are now available at Rosewood. All travel is by private vehicle.
Finally, the AGM followed Presentations. Captain Les did not seek re-election and Peter Cook was elected in his place. For his outstanding service to the Association over the last 10 years, Les was awarded Life Membership. All other Committee members will continue in their existing positions in 2015. The Financial Report indicated a small profit for the year and the Association will be in a sound financial position to conduct the Programme planned for 2015.
