Event 1 – Rosewood

It wasn’t the optimism of the start of another exciting year of golf that pervaded Opening Day, but the sadness at the void left by the death of Captain, Peter Cook, tempered by the knowledge that his legacy was a well-structured process of management of our programme and the recording of relevant data. Thanks Pete, we will miss you.

The day was fine and hot but the 2017 programme got off to a great start with 125 players (99 men and 26 ladies) turning out for our Opening Day. Of these 14 (10 men and 4 ladies) were new members or previous members who have rejoined. In addition, five of last year’s members who have yet to play re-joined as well. Opening Day is always hectic and this one was especially so, but a quick re-shuffle of tasks of Committee members allowed Registration to be completed in time for the scheduled 8.30am hit-off..

This year’s Opening game saw the Course thriving after good rainfall, which was keeping the ground staff busy trying to stay on top of the grass growth.. Preferred Lie was retained and ball searches were often necessary where balls strayed. The Greens were in top condition with some very interesting Pin placements.

Mary Gibson’s excellent hospitality was again very much appreciated and two lunches with salad were available after getting in out of the heat.

Countbacks were necessary in all three categories to determine the winners, who were Pam Lane, Jim Crichton and Vic Gibbons. Because of the field size, 8 Pin Shot were allocated, and it was pleasing to see that there were 8 different winners sharing balls with 24 other players.

Photos.

1. Even the wildlife kept to the shade when they could.

2. You should have been happy with that shot Vern.

3. Tough day at the office Joy!

4. Not often is there a chance to have 2 photos of the one player, but this one was too good to miss.

5. Just the rest Vic needed to go on and win today.

6. A new start and straight into it. Congratulations Bob on taking on this important role and good luck to you and your committee helpers in 2017.

The next game will be held at Sandy Gallop on Monday 6th February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is at Rosewood Golf Club.

As usual, the AGM followed Presentations. All available retiring Office Bearers were re-elected and Bob Carter’s nomination to fill the vacant Captain’s position was eagerly accepted. Ron Pflugrath returned to the Committee after 12 years to fill the vacancy left by the departure of Paul Harbers. The President’s report included a tribute to Peter Cook and then touched on the increased numbers at most of our venues, the Programme and fees for 2017, the willing assistance given by all Committee members, the assurance that any assistance forthcoming from members would be eagerly accepted and other matters relating to the conduct of Association business. The Secretary/Treasurer reported a slight decrease in Association funds from the previous year due mainly to the increase in Trophies, but that Game Fees could remain the same unless these costs increase significantly.
