The weather forecast was correct, and a fine day with the temperature reaching the mid 30’s ensured that plenty of water was taken to prevent any hydration during the Round. Nevertheless, players made the most of cool drinks from the bar after play.
The year has started very well with 95 (72 men and 23 ladies) of the earlier Timesheet number of 103 hitting off. Three of these were new players and another three paid their Nomination but did not start. Despite the time taken to renew memberships and distribute Fixture and QVGU cards, play got under way on time.
The photo above shows how beneficial recent rain has been for the Course. Some time was lost looking for stray balls, but generally the field moved at a steady pace. The Greens were the length necessary for proper maintenance at this time of the year, and more importantly, showed a noticeable absence of the troublesome weeds.
In the absence of Mary Gibson, Margaret Morton took over the kitchen and served up top lunches.
The trophy winners today had the good luck to receive the meat tray prizes which should have been presented on the washed-out Closing Day last year. The lucky recipients were Di Stanley and Angie Arumugam, Roger Cromarty and Graham Hauser and in Division 2, Peter Nunn, with 41 points and the top score on the day, and Maurie Clem. The butcher was probably wondering if he would ever see any of them again.
Photos:
1. Arthur and Richard took no time to find the ball here but still enjoyed some time in the shade.
2. The second one of these for John today, with a better result this time.
3. We couldn’t believe that Lyn would actually attempt this shot. She did, and it turned out well.
4. Murray took some time to determine how best to play this shot.
5. John and Brett welcome new members, Barry and Lynn, to the group.
The next game will be held at Sandy Gallop on Monday 7th February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet for this game is available at Rosewood Golf Club.
The Annual Report for the 2021 year was presented at the AGM held straight after Presentations. Existing Committee members, with the exception of Ron Pflugrath, were the only nominations for 2022, and were duly re-elected. The Report indicated a membership of 202 by year’s end. The Secretary/Treasurer circulated the Auditor’s Report which confirmed that income was slightly greater than expenditure for the twelve months. The meeting supported the award of life membership to Secretary / Treasurer, Des Davies, for the excellent service rendered to members during his eleven years in that office with the Association.
