Event 1 – Rosewood

There was every expectation that Opening day would be quite warm. And so, it resulted.   However, the cloud cover for the first 9 holes made conditions very comfortable, whereas for the last half of the game, players eagerly sought the shade even when they were down the middle.

The year got off to a good start with 93 players, (73 men and 20 ladies), all continuing members, as the one player down to join was unable to make it on the day. The new registrations and the distribution of Fixture and QVGU cards went well, and players headed off to their Tees right on time.

The Course was in very good shape, and the Club members did very well to have it ready to play, just leaving some areas of rough for us to try to avoid. The Greens were the real surprise with complete grass cover and the absence of foreign growth. They had the usual cut for this time of year, and we all now look forward to putting on them in cooler weather.

Mary Gibson extended the usual welcome to the club with pikelets and cake and then the ladies prepared the extremely enjoyable choice of very fresh sandwiches for lunch. Thanks ladies.
A good number of players had freshened up during the break, for there were hosts of excellent scores, but the best were 42 and 40 by Denis Misso and Graham Wilson to take the men’s trophies, just ahead of four others on 39, two of whom won the countbacks to take the other trophies. In the Ladies competition, Shirley Morgan’s 37 was just good enough to pip Shiela Goodbun for the main trophy.

Photos:

1. The book-in table was a very busy place for the first game.

2. Brian will need his favourite club if he’s to get out of this predicament.

3. John was trying to tell us that he had just put his name on the Pinshot sheet.

4. Another one down the middle and he only needed a couple of additional ones like this to have taken out the Runner-up trophy.

5. Well, that’s it for another week, and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the day.

The next game will be held at Sandy Gallop on Monday 6th February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet for this game is available at Rosewood Golf Club.

The Annual Report for the 2022 year was presented at the AGM held straight after Presentations. In the absence of any new nominations, the existing Committee members were duly re-elected. The Annual Report indicated a reduced membership of 149 a reduction of 52 on last year’s numbers, and also some notable successses at the State Championships in Caboolture and and State Carnival in Woodford. The Secretary/Treasurer circulated the Auditor’s Report which showed a greater expenditure than income due to the smaller number of registered players and the cost of correcting computer malfunctions. Issues which prevented play at Gatton in 2022 have been resolved and it has been added to our 2023 programme. Negotiations with Boonah and Brisbane River failed to produce an acceptable outcome and these games have been allocated to our District Clubs for 2023.
