2nd Round of the 2014 Championships
Sponsored by Queenslanders Credit Union
A totally different day today to complete this year’s Championships. Though the gusty winds were still around, they were a lot lighter and the temperature on the day reached 24 degrees with the sun shining for most of the day. Our major sponsors, Queenslanders Credit Union, were once again represented by Russell Phillips.
The numbers today were two down on last week, with 87(71 men and 16 ladies). Despite reminders to take care with the accuracy of entries on the scorecards, there were six players who played for the Daily trophies today after last week being disqualified or handing in NCR’s. I’m sure Darcy wouldn’t mind you being told that he scored the ‘Golden Double’, with yet another disqualification today.
The Fairways had definitely started to ‘green up’, but thankfully the card length Preferred Lie was retained. The Greens were again quite quick and not to be treated lightly unless you wanted a good length return putt if you missed the hole. Some of the Pin placements needed very careful reading to see the subtle slopes near the hole.
The pikelets and biscuits were very welcome, especially to the travellers but there was less call for the Tea and Coffee with the cold winds absent today. The lunch menu was well supported and helped hold a very good number for the presentation of trophies.
Russell Phillips is more at ease with us now and he really seemed to be enjoying presenting the trophies on behalf of the Queenslanders Credit Union. Marysha Boonstoppel had very good win in the Ladies Division. In the Men’s competition, it looked like being a three way tie on first checking the scores, but after close scrutiny, Ernie Lee got there by the narrowest of margins from John Morris and Graham Doyle. Jim Crichton celebrated missing Jury Duty to score two Pin Shots and Peter Frazer got his two Pin Shots to compensate in some small way for last week’s disqualification.
Photos.
1. Last minute practice putts and equipment check before the ‘Cart Army’ heads out for the challenges of the day.
2. A better shot than the one played this week. This one was almost on the Green.
3. At last. Plenty of success at Pennants over the years and now the Vets Championship. Congratulations Ernie. Your annual Championship ordeal is almost over Ron. Thanks again.
4. Photo first and then Russell will give you your trophy Marysha. Congratulations on a very good effort. Notice the Banner in the background. Thanks also Queenslanders Credit Union.
