Event 15 – Beaudesert

After the cold winds of the previous Monday at Lowood and the forecast of similar winds today, all were hoping that they didn’t eventuate. The morning was quite cool, but there was no fog to go through on the way to the Course, and while there was a breeze, the day gradually warmed and it turned out to be a perfect day for golf.

Despite the change of the date of the game, 53 players (43 Men and 10 Ladies) turned up, following 4 withdrawals because of illness and the arrival of 3 who weren’t on the Timesheet. The organisers did a great job in getting Buggies for all who wanted one and the locals who shared their Buggies are to be thanked.

The Course was starting to dry out, but players seldom needed to take the ‘Preferred Lie on their own Fairway’. The Greens were a credit to the Ground Staff. The layout proved daunting for players new to the Course who vowed to do better next time when they understood the danger areas. Those who have played here before wondered why they didn’t use their knowledge to score better.

The Beaudesert hospitality began on arrival with the provision of Tea/Coffee and biscuits and culminated with a great choice of hot lunches after the game in a pleasant Clubhouse atmosphere with most from both Associations remaining for Presentations.

The results certainly favoured the local players, but John Walsh was right up there with the winners with his 37 points and will receive the trophy for ‘Best Ipswich District score’. The locals were also too good and took out all Pin Shots as well. We did hold them in the raffle where we took home 14 prizes. Ipswich players who got balls in the rundown are recorded in the ‘Results’ section of the website.

Photos:

1. The sight which greets the player on the Men’s 9th Tee.

2. Hitting off from the 10th Tee is no easy task either.

3.Getting over the water on the 10th Tee can then leave this shot to a narrow Green if you don’t get up far enough.

4. And what about the Par 5 6th. Nerves of steel are needed here as well.

5. Safely back in the Clubhouse patiently waiting for hot lunch.

The next game is at Ipswich on Monday 21st July.
