A lovely fine day and just made for golf except for one small detail, the 15 to 25 km/h winds which gusted for the entire round. There were those who ventured out in shorts while others had to modify swings to accommodate the bulky warm upper body garments they were wearing.
The field was 86 (71 men and 15 ladies), and despite such a large field, the first group finished in 4 3/4 hours and nearly all the remainder in 5 hours. The call-up on the Par threes worked well, where it was used, and would have been appreciated by the last group on the second Tee where neither of the previous 2 groups called up to get them in a little sooner.
The Course itself was in very good condition though it was starting to brown off in some areas. The Greens were excellently prepared and freshly mown and had there been no wind there would have been a lot fewer putts on the day.
In the Clubhouse before play the bun and hot drink were appreciated as usual, and then after play and a day in the wind, the hot roast meal really was the way to put some warmth back in the body.
In the conditions, how did Laurie Marsh stay focused enough to register 43 points and win his first competition with us? Congratulations Laurie. The Captain was next best with a well compiled 40 points for a Division 1 win and Joy Wilson wasn’t fazed by the weather and won with a 38. Bill Naoum’s luck on the track has spilled over onto his Pin Shot success with another one today.

With the Programme change, the next game is now at Beaudesert on Monday 7th July. Late nominations will be accepted. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Beaudesert Vets will host the day which will also include their players. The following game will see our return to Ipswich on Monday 21st July, and a chance to see how the Course has held up over the last 12 months. Those playing there have indicated that it is in very reasonable condition, especially the Greens. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheets for both games are now out.
