Event 3 – Middle Ridge

The trip up the range was one to forget. There was light rain for most of the way and the roadworks tested the patience of many, especially some of the later departees, who were stationary at one point for 20 minutes (and this time we believe them). However, once at the Club, and after a few donned cardigans for a while, the day proved ideal for golf.

The field was 78 (62 Men and 16 Ladies) and another eight would have played if the club had sufficient Buggies. That situation was worsened when one broke down and was unable to be repaired in time. Five of the players were playing for the first time this year and we welcomed one visitor, Les’s brother, Kevin.

What can be said about the Course, except overall disappointment in its condition. The adjustment to the playing fee was appreciated, but for those who hadn’t played here for 5 years, the expected return to a pristine Course was a let down. The Fairways were suffering from lack of water and an extremely hot couple of days and the spiking of the Greens had them in the worst condition we have experienced here. The Temporary Green was really a misnomer and the shortened hole saw a temporary rating placed on the Course which we found out about after the game. Still, we’ll be back but at a different time of the year.

There was some confusion with the Tea/Coffee on arrival but this was soon rectified and the hotbox meals were satisfactory except for the chips.. Those who ordered the toasted sandwiches got by far the better deal..

You can’t keep an old warhorse down, and he only played when someone else pulled out. The only score over 40 was recorded by one our last two remaining foundation members, John (Darcy) Duggan, with 41 points to win Division 2. Denis Misso’s 39 points won him Division 1 and Shirley Luhrman went on holidays after she beat Wendy Scott with 35 ocb. Mark Butler almost had the only Birdie on the testing 18th hole when his ball stopped 1cm short. Graham Wilson went one better on the temporary 13th Green. To avoid putting on it, he chipped in for a Birdie.

Photos.

1. Was this how the rest of the Course would be? Sadly no.

2. Not having a good day, but Terry was determined to score well on the 16th.

3. Don’t believe all these two tell you Kevin.

4. Eat up Mark. You need the energy to get that extra 1 cm next time.

5. Two winners in the one group and Paul shares their joy.

The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Laidley on 3rd March. Both the Esk and Boonah Invitation Day Timesheets will be out that day.
