1st Round of the 2015 Championships
A little cool early on as you would expect at this time of the year, but by 8.30am a very fine day was emerging, and it turned out to be an excellent day for golf. Some were more anxious to get the game underway than others. Wait till Ernie Wright hears how his usual playing partner had to be warned that he was heading to the clubhouse and his clubs were still in the boot of his car.
The field was 98 (82 Men and 16 Ladies), including one new member and two returning members. All players got a ball when registering and it would be interesting to know how many of them lasted the day. The note given to players outlining the Local rules was very helpful, but to make sure the President went over them before dispatching players to their Tees. There was some confusion about the format of the game but it was played as a Stroke Event and trophies will be awarded on Nett scores. A comparison will be made with player’s Stableford scores to help with determining future Championship formats and trophy bcategories.
No Preferred lie needed today as the Course was in excellent shape. Those who hadn’t played here recently were anxious to see the new 3rd Tee and some wished to be back on the old one which now has the much used Drop Zone for those who fail to negotiate the water between Tee and Green. The Greens could not be faulted but it would have helped many if there were not so many slopes to read to finish up close to the hole.
Lunch today was a 1st for the Gallop, with Pie, peas, mashed potato and gravy as a very pleasant and tasty surprise. Thanks Chris.
By far the best Men’s score of the day was Bob Daw’s 63 Nett. Next in Division 1 is Peter Roche after Doug Dann Disqualified himself for signing an incorrect card. Division 2 is very close with very Senior member, Allan Alloway, leading the way there as well as in the Over 80’s. Shiela Goodbun had only 2 more than Bob Daw and with a 5 shot lead, will be hard to topple in the Ladies event. Take a look at the leading scores in the ‘Results’ section and try to pick a winner in any of the age events.
Photos.
1. The view from the new 3rd Tee today. How many balls went in here today?
2. Would you believe they’re not looking for a ball, they’re looking at a pair of ducks on the bank.
3. It looks complex, but it’s just Ken applying some tips he picked up in Sydney.
4. Yes, she got the ball out, just, and she soon dried out.
