The temperature was in low single figures at the start of play but quickly warmed up to provide a beautiful day for golf. Even the predicted light fog stayed away. All arrived well before 8.30am which allowed everyone to hit off on time.
A field was 86(70 men and 16 ladies). It is good to see the Ladies figures at this level again. We hosted a visitor from Mt Isa, welcomed one new member and two former members who have now re-joined. It was pleasing to have QVGU President, Barrie Rymer, and his wife Vilma as guests for lunch. They travelled down from Bribie Island to present Certificates to two members.
The Course is improving each time we return, especially the area in front of the 14th Green, some of the margins of the hazards and the reduction in the number of Bunkers. The Greens are in top condition after recently being sanded even though some of the Pin placements caused a few headaches.
Tea, coffee and biscuits were enjoyed before play and the new winter menu options at the Club were well received, especially the chicken and mushroom soup. Those who chose the Club’s ‘homemade’ pies were also very impressed. The donation of two bottles of Sirromet wines for trophies was very much appreciated.
There was a feeling that the winning scores may be lower than usual, but this was proved to be wrong when two 39’s and Graham Wilson’s lone 40 took home the trophies. There were stories of some top shots during the Round but Bill Naoum’s Eagle on the 15th had to be the best.

2. Even the distraction of heavy machinery noise couldn’t put this group off their game.
3. Ross may not wish to reveal where this shot finished up.
4. Being over 80 doesn’t stop you from enjoying a game of golf.
5. It’s OK Sarah, it’s Chicken and Mushroom soup and very tasty so I’m told. And her Guide Dog in training has moved on so Fay can have the lot herself.
The next game is an Invitation Day at Beaudesert on Monday 20th July run by the Club Vets. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The following game is at Esk on Monday 27th July. Both Timesheets are now available at Rosewood Golf Club.
