Event 2 – Sandy Gallop

Another day’s golf with a predicted temperature in the low thirties but the breeze, periods of overcast skies and a short period of showers made for a most enjoyable day. The field moved very evenly and most finished under the four and a half hour mark.

A field was 84 (68 men and 16 ladies) with four withdrawals and six new members. Paul Harbers and Les Smith did a great job getting the computer scorecards printed, no easy task with so many unfamiliar with the system. Paul also oversaw the entry of scores after play and the printing of the results sheet in very quick time.

The Course was very playable and there was no need to use the option of introducing a preferred lie ruling. Relief was available from some bare patches on Fairways, though this rarely needed to be used. Thanks to Glen Cullen whose early arrival allowed the Greens to be mown for our competition. The Greens were in very good condition but early in the day many were expecting them to be quicker and left their putts short.

Hamburgers were ready straight after the game and the Barbecue lunch concept prevented long queues of players waiting to be served.

Richard Parnell won Division 1 for the second week in a row, but Des Davies’ forty-four was the best score of the day giving him an easy win in Division 2. Dorothy Pearson easily won the Ladies event with thirty nine points. Col Hallam took some consolation from his Pin Shot on hole 11 after finishing with forty points two weeks in a row but no winner’s trophy to take home.

Photos.

1. You might get away with a slice here, but don’t try one on the 6th, the hole on the left.

2. Even if you had got it, Cedric, you would only have had 28 points.

3. See if you’re smiling when you have to print your scorecard, Shiela.

4. Shirley, it’s lucky Paul got the Pin Shot balls with only two in the group, because he had no chance in the Ball Rundown.

The next game is at Middle Ridge on Monday 23rd February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet for the following game at Laidley on Monday 2nd March is now available also.
