Event 29 – Ipswich City

With a hot late Spring Day predicted, players made sure they had plenty of fluids with them, and though trying at times, it was still a good day’s golf which resulted, especially as there were sufficient motorised buggies for all those who wanted one.

The field size today was 92 (73 men and 19 ladies), one of the better attendances this year. Two of these were guests who indicated a desire to become memembers in 2017. It was expected that the scorecards would be printed, but a machine malfunction prevented this. However, with the help of two Committee members, all were correctly handicapped, and an early start still eventuated.

The Course was in a well-presented condition, but the preferred lie was necessary, even on most Fairways. Like all Courses, the rain predicted for later in the week is urgently required. The Greens still have some recovery from maintenance, but putts generally kept their line even though they may have given the occasional hop or two.

The urn was boiling early when the doors opened and the tea, coffee and biscuits were well received. The club has introduced a $10.00 meal menu and players were offered a choice of four of them, enough to satisfy all needs.

All winners today easily accounted for any challengers. Frank Akes had 47 points to win Division 2 by 6 shots. Sally Roderick had 45 points to also win by 6 points, while Chris Petrohilos won by 5 points. Rhonda Williams gave the field a lesson in accurate shots to the Green by winning two ‘All In’ Pin Shots, with 66cm on the 14th and 41cm on the 6th. Captain, Peter, will be pleased as he spreads the Pin Shots to different holes each game and says the Ladies are not at a disadvantage with ‘All In’ Pins.
