Another fine day with a constant breeze which turned the weather quite cool when clouds hid the sun. It was again pleasant to have nearly everyone arrive on time, and only a minor hiccup had the last arrivals arrive just making it at hit-off time.
As we had not travelled to Toogoolawah for a good number of years, the size of the field had everyone guessing. In the end, with two withdrawals, it was 56 (51 men and 5 ladies), a number which was extremely satisfactory and the proceeds of which will greatly assist the small club as all work and catering is voluntary.
As shown in the photo above, the Course is in great need of rain, but it was well presented and what water was available was used to make the Greens and Tees lush, but not mown too closely to maintain them in reasonable condition until the Spring.
Another Club has been added to the ones we already regard as very hospitable, with the morning tea willingly provided and the hamburgers and sandwiches very fresh and tasty.
Three 40 pointers today, and you could say local (well only 18 kilometres away) knowledge saw Bruce Thorogood just pip 2016 Champion, Bob Carter, for the Division 1 trophy, while Charles Stevenson’s 41 points was the best of the day to win the Division 2 trophy by one shot from Championship Runner-up, Terry Jones. A countback gave the Ladies trophy to Shiela Goodbun.
Photos.
1. The first view many had of Toogoolawah Golf Course. If only they had had some rain, it would have looked vastly different.
2. Plenty to do before the game and Ernie chooses another Lucky Number.
3. Just as well you are left-handed, Barb. Right handers would have had some difficulty hitting the ball from where you landed.
4. It’s even poor pickings for ducks, and these three chose their victims carefully and were rewarded with some tasty morsels.
5. A shortage of tables with the numbers remaining for lunch, so these observant blokes found very comfortable spots around the bar.
The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Lowood on Monday 19th September. The following one is at Gailes on Monday 26th September, also an 8.30am Shotgun start.
