2nd Round of the 2016 Championships
Sponsored by Queenslanders Credit Union
Registrations went well and after a clarification to players of Conditions of Play, Local Rules and scoring on Scorecards, the field got away on time, on a day which was three short of the start of Spring. It was ideal weather for the last round of the 2016 Queenslanders Credit Union Championships.
The numbers today were two fewer than last week, with 94 (71 men and 23 ladies), but it was still satisfying to have two successive games with fields in excess of ninety. The scorecards were again ready, and this took the frustration out of having to ensure entry of the correct handicap. One new member joined.
Although there had been 20 to 30 cms of rain since the game last week, it was not enough to make much difference to the Course in the short term. Preferred Lie of one card length was retained and was needed in most areas. It was very much used off the Fairways as most players had to contend with wayward shots amongst the trees. The Greens were freshly mown and were very slick, which made putting to holes near slopes very costly to the unwary.
Mary’s home cooking was much appreciated once again and the new hot lunch menu even surpassed that of the previous week.
With our usual Queenslanders Credit Union rep, Russell Phillips on holidays, Lisa Duffy stood in for him and did a great job. Denise Johnson had a 6-shot win in the Ladies competition and Bob Carter just prevailed by 2 in the Men’s. 87-year-old Allan Alloway took out the over 80’s trophy. Other results are listed in the ‘Results’ section.
Photos.
1. From this photo the difficulties in recording a good score were not obvious.
2. One of the many shots Carolyn had from similar positions today, as did most of her fellow players.
3. Husband Bob has a few words of reproach to the Pin Shot marker on Hole 2 which prevented his approach from finishing near the hole.
4. And the winners are – Bob and Denise with Queenslanders rep, Lisa, after receiving the winners’ trophy.
The next game is at Toogoolawah on Monday 5th September. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The following game is at Lowood on Monday 19th September. Both Timesheets are now available.
