No fog on the drive to the Course, followed by a glorious day for golf if you were prepared to forget the cool breeze which kept the jackets on for the first half of the game. The early arrival of all players allowed play to get under way 10 minutes early.
The field of 62 (51 men and 11 ladies), with a few more than usual walking because of the flatness of the Course and because, as you would expect, the Club has a limited number of Buggies. One player re-joined for his first game of the year after being indisposed earlier on.
Without Fairway watering, the Course has held up reasonably for this time of the year, but the Preferred Lie was necessary on many areas. The Greens have responded well to the work being done on them, and were kept a little long to see them through the Winter. They will play really well in the Spring. The contouring of a couple of them has provided plenty of scope for some horrendous Pin placements.
No ‘al fresco’ today, but the usual goodies were served up in the clubhouse instead. The Winter lunch choice, including sweets, was very well received and left no-one disappointed.
Local lad, Lyle Robson, had the edge on the other Division 1 players, but only just, as did Ivan Henry and Shiela Goodbun in the other Divisions. Rhonda Williams won the Ladies Pin Shot on the 4th hole, and the other players found it hard to believe that you could be over 12 metres from the Pin and still be on the Green.
Photos.
1. An ideal spot to catch up on recent events before moving out on to the Course.
2. Michael has never seen this on a Local Rule Board before, and I don’t suppose many others have either.
3. Would Des have seen where the ball went even if he was watching.
4. We would all be as happy as Kev if we had the sunk the long putt he just did.
The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Karana Downs on Monday 1st August. The following one is at Hattonvale on Monday 8th August, also an 8.30am Shotgun start.
