Event 11 – Lowood

Another excellent day for golf but, as on all Courses in the District, players would have been happy for rain , but only before or after play.

The field was 73 (64 men and 9 ladies) 23 down on the numbers at the first Lowood game this year but a number which the Course handled quite comfortably. There were still the waits at the 2/11 hole and this caused the overall time to creep over the four and a quarter hour mark.

The Course was much the same as earlier in the year and the Ground Staff have done a good job keeping it at that level. The Greens made the visit well worthwhile and putting was a pleasure on all holes.

Fresh bun loaf and Tea or Coffee extended a warm welcome and the ladies topped that with the usual roast lunches.

Seven scores in the 40’s today, so different from the last game when there were none. Gary Rodgers got the nod in Division 1 on countback and Harry Mengelers had a one point win in Division 2. Sarah Erith Erith turned on a great exhibition and easily took the Ladies trophy. Ernie Wright and Des Hastie joined the wrong group and rued the move after the game when Ann Hughes, one of their supposed playing group, won a Pin Shot.

1. It must be important, Peter, you’ve got their attention.

2. The ‘wrong group’ culprits in action.

3. The effort put into this shot paid off with a good result.

4. I’m sure he won’t mind me telling you that he took three chips to get on the Green and needed this putt for a point.

The next game is at Ipswich City on Monday 30th May. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is available at Rosewood Golf Club. The Woodford Nomination Sheet for the game on Monday 6th June is also now available.
