The high humidity following the recent rain, together with the 32-degree heat could have made conditions very uncomfortable, but the fresh breeze kept conditions bearable. With players all arriving on time, they were able to be dispatched 10 minutes early.
The field was 103 (83 men and 20 ladies) with seven renewals and four new members. That response is a good indicator that we should have a very good roll-up at games this year. It will be interesting to see the size of the field at Monday’s first ‘Away’ game at City. Captain Peter had the scorecards pre-printed with playing handicaps, and best of all, with the hit-off Tees as well, so that players had no need to look through the timesheet to find their group.
The Course is still a ‘work in progress’ but each time we come here; the improvements are obvious. At this time of the year, maintenance is stretched and some areas of rough will be shorter next visit. Bunkers were made G.U.R. because of repairs and rain water retention, a move welcomed by most. The Greens are in top shape and gave players the confidence to expect an even roll of the ball.
The urn was boiling as players arrived, so the early arrivals had time for a relaxed social chat before play. The lunch menu gave everyone a choice from four meals. They were well received and provided good feedback on the choices for the meals at the next game.
New member, Mary Smith, almost had her hand on her first trophy only to be denied by Pam Lane by one shot. Doug Dann had an easy win in Division 1 but in Division 2 Graham Wilson just pipped John Hunter. The men’s winners and runners-up were the only players to get 40 points. John Ward played the shot of the day to score an eagle on hole 12. The fact that he couldn’t see the Pin once he took his stance doesn’t detract from his effort.

1. Looking from the 12th Green up the 2nd Fairway. That’s not an optical illusion, the Groundstaff have the Greens in very good condition.
2. They just need a rest. How many kilometres did they cover today to avoid our players?
3. Patience Mary. John just missed his putt, and Charles really wants to make his.
4. It wasn’t from the Tee today that Shiela had any trouble. She found the middle of the Fairway on most holes.
5. After coming all the way from Esk, they could have treated the game a bit more seriously.
The next game is at City (Toowoomba) on Monday 29th February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start and players should give themselves plenty of time in case of heavy traffic on the range. The Timesheet is available at Rosewood Golf Club.
