Event 26 – Laidley

For the second time in two weeks, we have had a game in the low 30’s, and with the recent rain, it was quite humid, though this was tempered by the breeze we always seem to get at Laidley.

The field was 86 (72 Men and 14 Ladies), an extremely good field for Laidley. Players arrived well in time knowing it was a very full field, and play got under way 10 minutes early. The average time for the game was about four and three quarter hours. We welcomed one new member.

The Course was very quick to show the effects of the recent rain and it already has the grass responding to bring a fresh look from the brown of a week ago. The Greens were in top order and we were lucky to experience that as they were scarified the following day.

The usual Laidley hospitality had the Urn boiling early and there was a choice of two well-chosen lunch meals.

40, 39 and 38 were the winning scores for Kerry McGuire, Gary Rodgers, and Rhonda Williams, with a 4-way 38-point tussle for Runner-up in Division 1. Angie Arumugam showed how it’s done with the All In win on hole 2 , but then none of the lasses could get on to the 8th hole. After last week’s chip shot that hit the flag and gave him an easy putt, today Gary Rodgers did the same on the 7th hole to give him a 37cm putt.

Photos.

1. Bob and Des kept them moving through and there was no long queue today.

2. Peter complained about paparazzi harassment, but not before this shot was taken.

3. She never misses an opportunity to promote the virtues of a Bromeliad.

4. Really just a shot to show how green the Course was, with these two groups just happening to be included.

5. It should have been a close up of Ken Davey telling his group about life in Ballina.

The next game is the one run by Sandy Gallop on Monday 23rd October. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start.
