The countryside on the drive up was very dry and, as therefore expected, so was the Course. The temperature was a comfortable 27 degrees, and the mostly light winds blew continuously throughout the day and certainly helped downwind play. Most players wished it had helped on hole 4, the Pin Shot hole.
A field was 54 (46 men and 8 ladies), which included 4 new members, three of whom were Esk players. At least 6 were unable to play as they could not get a buggy.
As stated above, the Course was very dry and they are desperate for some rain. The Fairways still had a good grass cover, but the Preferred Lie was used quite frequently during the Round. The Greens, though green, had not all recovered well from the last scarifying, and as a result were not of the same standard as on our earlier game this year.
Fresh scones, jam and cream again were most appreciated by players and there was a good response to lunch, which included sweets, after the game.
Bernie Bugden had the Round of the day with 41 points and John Farnbach and new member, Jim Brewood from Esk, won the men’s trophies with 38 points. Shirley Luhrman and Paul Harbers again won Pin Shots to give the other two members of their group a couple of balls for their next game.

1. Another relaxing day at Esk with time taken to compare notes while waiting to hit off.
2. Jerry wasted no time getting the tape measure to measure his distance on the 4th hole, and it held all day.
3. Jim Gilbert hasn’t done this since retiring and at least this time there were no thundering hooves to avoid.
4. Bob’s chip shot ricocheted off Nev’s ball and went in the hole. His ball was placed on the edge of the hole to show how far it was deflected. He always was lucky.
5. Shirley just had to have a go at this shot to try to score at least a point.
The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Toowoomba City on Monday 25th September. The Timesheet is now available. Ring Ossie if you have difficulty getting a Buggy.
