A couple of players made the comment that it was just like a summer’s day, and so it was after a reasonably cool morning chill. In fact, at one stage it got quite hot. There was no trouble parking because of the construction of the new retail building, but it will be interesting to see what the access is next year when the shop is open.
Game numbers today were 61(51 men and 10 Ladies), and this seems to be the number we can expect at Hatton Vale, which is probably a safe number at this tight nine-hole Course. Included in that number were two new members.
The Course layout had again undergone a slight change, but the hole numbers were clearly displayed, and no one played them out of order. The Fairways were very dry and allowed plenty of run, but the Greens and surrounds were well watered and in very good order.
All players arrived in good time and allowed an early hit-off, but not before the welcome hot Tea or Coffee warmed them up and they put in their orders for the expected tasty Hatton Vale lunch meals, which were brought to the tables after play.
All players were shocked to see their lower playing handicaps today because of the low Slope Ratings, and no one had 40 points. Both men’s winners had 39 points though and Shirley Luhrman wasn’t far behind that with 37 points for yet another win. John Hunter supplemented his win with a Pin Shot as well.
Photos.
1. The Greens and surrounds were a pleasure to play except for the traps in the form of well-placed grass bunkers.
2. The concentration put into this shot paid off with a fine result.
3. Shiela was pleased with the result of this difficult shot.
4. Eighty-eight and he still has that steady Alloway swing of years ago.
5. A bit of a wait here on the 2/11th Tees but plenty of drama to watch up ahead.
The next two games will be at Wolston Park on Monday 31st July and Karana Downs Monday 7th August. They are both 8.30am Shotgun start. They will be followed by the two Rounds of our 2017 Championships at Ipswich City. The Timesheet for Round 1 will be out at Wolston Park.
