Event 13 – Boonah

The second week in a row with ideal condition for golf, and there was not as much early fog on the way to the Course today. The Club helped with additional Buggies from members which allowed and extra 12 players to have a game. Thanks Joey.

The field was 81 (65 men and 16 ladies) and would have been many more except that quite a few chose not to swell the capacity of the field to an unmanageable level. As it was, players responded to the request to keep the field moving and most were finished at about the four and a half hour mark. One pair forgot to order a Buggy and decided to venture further afield to Beaudesert to have a game.

The Course was a pleasure to play today, and no Preferred Lies were needed. The Fairways looked wide enough for Tee shots, but it was amazing how many many finished in the rough. Thankfully, it didn’t take long to find most ‘straying’ balls because the rough is maintained at a manageable length. The Greens were slick but true and the wise ones among us kept approach shots under the hole.

The separate room for the Tea and Coffee relieved the numbers in the Registration area and provided a welcome start to the day. The Boonah catering ladies did another top job this year in getting the lunch meals to the diners in very good time.

The Round of the day was Michael Schilling’s 45 points giving him a six shot win in Division 2. He said it was a complete turn around from the scores he has had recently. Bob Ellison just pipped Captain Bob for his win and Helen Gilbert had her first Vets win, also by one shot. Two trophies had to be paid out to Dorothy Pearson and Billy Lowe for the Pin on the tricky 8/17th hole. They must have had uphill putts because the downhill ones were treacherous. It really didn’t matter to Billy as his Tee Shot finished only 50cm from the hole.

Photos. The quality of the photos today is variable because of a camera malfunction and an amateur effort to adjust them.

1. The Course was in great shape and a look at the 9th Green here shows why all the Greens today were the usual ‘Boonah slick’.

2. This was one of the best of Shiela’s drives today.

3. Husband, Ted, waits for his turn to show his skills from the rough, and then his approach shot to about one metre from the hole allowed him to finish with a par.

4. Kerry really got into the swing of things from the 4th Tee.

5. You’ve actually got them spellbound here, Don!

The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun Start at Ipswich City on Monday 19th June.
